Introduction

The food service industry, in particular the supply chain of the food service industry is one of the most important aspects of the industry. In 2008, there were 546,300 privately owned food service and drinking places across the United States (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2011). Each one of these places needs food, drink, and non-food supplies. We will research in particular an organization known as Performance Food Group (PFG). This paper will cover the aspects of research in the food service industry, how they apply to the industry, and their importance in maintaining positive customer satisfaction.
