The Role of Unionization

The call to unionize can strike fear in a small business owner as the role of unions or human resources (HR) in the workplace differ. In a non-union business, HR deals directly with the employee about all employment issues ranging from salary to termination. However, once a union is formed and becomes part of the business model, the HR loses this direct contact ability as the union negotiates employment terms for prospective and current employees or is present during termination.
