27 Why is it important to society that the law protect intellectual property?

Intellectual property is a form of personal property which differs from real property (land and everything attached to it) and other tangible types of personal property (clothing, furniture, boats, etc.). (Liuzzo, 2013, p. 396). Intellectual property involves intangible possessions such as knowledge, ways of doing things and ideas and is protected by using patents, copyrights, and trademarks (p. 478).
