Death and Dignity What is meant by death and dignity and a few of the various laws surrounding the topic. Death with dignity laws allow qualified terminally-ill adults to voluntarily request and receive a prescription medication to hasten their death. This is only available in a few states and is a gentle way to allow the person who is suffering to die with dignity where they provide them with a pill. Depending on the state they reside in they must first qualify and if they do not qualify then the individual does have alternative options such as not starting a new treatment or stopping the current treatment, even voluntarily stopping eating and drinking.
