You arean environmental health inspector that works for a local health department. You are faced with two environmental issues that are affecting the local community. Write a 2-3 page paper in which you respond to the following two questions:
Housing and Institutional Health
Question 1: There are problems at a daycare facility for infants and toddlers, in a low-income neighborhood. The daycare is located in an old building structure. There is paint peeling from the walls and the paint has been tested and found to contain lead. There is also mold growing on some walls in the bathrooms. Summarize the exposure risks and the health hazards associated with lead and mold exposure in young children, in this particular setting, and describe what may be done by teachers and facilities personnel to control these two public health problems in this particular daycare setting.
Please be sure to support your position with evidence from the literature.
Swimming Pools
Question 2: One of your goals is to protect the health of swimmers at a local recreational pool. Describe two methods that have been used to treat swimming pool water, chlorination and ultraviolet radiation. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each. Then, identify the method or combination of methods that would provide the best protection to swimmers and the public's health. Explain your rationale.
Support your position with evidence from the literature.
Assignment Expectations
Use information from the modular background readings as well as any good quality resource you can find.
LENGTH: 2-3 pages typed and double-spaced, in addition to a cover page.
The following items will be assessed in particular:
Precision: Each of the questions of the assignment is specifically addressed in the paper. The health hazards of lead and mold are described in the context of a daycare setting. The paper discusses two methods that have been used to treat swimming pool water, chlorination and ultraviolet radiation. The paper, identifies the method or combination of methods that would provide the best protection to swimmers' health; the rationale for the choice is explained.
Clarity: The paper reads clearly. It is well structured and grammatically correct.
Breadth: The paper presents appropriate breadth covering the questions of the assignment. Many of the health hazards of lead and mold are described. Many reasons why infants and toddlers are more vulnerable to the healt risks of lead and mold are addressed. The paper described ways in which exposure to lead and mold can be reduced. The paper describes both chlorination and ultraviolet radiation methods with advantages and disadvantages.
Depth: The paper thoroughly describes the tasks of the assignment. The paper describes thoroughly the aspects of this assignments. The paper provides a good explanation of the rationale behind view points.
Critical Thinking: The paper integrates your understanding of public health exposure to lead and mold to the challenges teachers and maintenance personnel may have in controlling and reducing these exposures to small children in a daycare setting that is located in a low-income neighborhood. The paper demonstrates that you used your knowledge about advantages and disadvantages of chorination and ultraviolet radiation to decide which of the two methods is best at protecting the health of swimmers.
References: At least, two in-text citations are provided as well as a reference list is provided at the end of your paper (APA formatting is not required but is highly recommended).
