Banner Health Regional Emergency Department is focused on evidenced based practice to promote patient safety, satisfaction, and outcomes. In an effort to reduce unnecessary radiation exposure and minimize the cost of care in trauma patients, Banner Health is initiating changes in the protocol for patients presenting with blunt abdominal trauma. Changes made would introduce the use of focused assessment using sonography in trauma (FAST) (a strategic devise), prior to abdominal CT of adult patients being assessed for blunt abdominal trauma.
