Out of the 843 historical artifacts that were stolen and smuggled abroad, the robbers had stolen the statue of Buddha, the Begram Ivories, Bronze Age Carvings, and even Medieval Islamic Coins. The looters had broken into the museum during the civil war and they ended up on the black market. Many of them were recovered and turned into the British Museum and held to safely return to the Afghanistan Museum.
