ART 101 Art Appreciation

I. Baroque (began around 1600-1750)

a. The Baroque era began as artistic revolt against the stylization of Mannerist art and as means of implementing the demands of the Counter-Reformation Church, which sought to restore its religious prominence in the western world in the face of the Protestant threat (Duckett, 2011). The Baroque movement began in ital where artists expressed the triumphs of the Catholic Church.
