From my understanding, bride wealth would be considered trading livestock for a wife with the woman's family because livestock creates wealth within the pastoral and other societies. Marriage is a negotiation. Women are even put on lay away where the brides family is paid in installments and then she is sent to live with her husband after she is paid full in full. Marriages in the pastoral society are commonly stable because if the woman is unfaithful, the livestock must be returned to the grooms kin which is a difficult thing to do in due to the livestock being given to the brides brothers and other male kin.
