The criminal justice system in today's society is a very powerful entity. "With much power comes much responsibility," meaning just having anyone do the job does not cut it when it comes to policing and enforcing punishments through the courts system in today's society. Reason being within the criminal justice realm whether police or a judge they all have the ability to use discretion, not every situation deserves to be treated the same within the guidelines of the law. This does not mean that they should become so lenient and allow society to run around aimlessly, but what this does mean is that they have the ability to look at the situation and weigh the degree of the crime that was committed. This goes back to the statement of "with much power comes much responsibility," not always will society or those that work within the same areas of the criminal justice system agree. But when you have the ability to use your own discretion you do so knowingly aware that it is your own, and that others may have their own opinion on how your discretion may have been right or wrong.
