Gifted students, particularly those that exhibit an above average ability to complete academic work, can be channeled into programs that are more appropriate for their special talents. The first step in the process is, of course, to determine the child is gifted. A possible way to do this is through the administration of an IQ test or other standardized ability test. There are also techniques that can be used to identify and measure the potential of children with artistic gifts, such as playing a musical instrument, painting, or singing.
